TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE FOR GARG DYEING & TENT WORKS OUTDOOR ROOMS & CANOPIES.

PURPOSE: Terms and Conditions are specified to ensure customers understand GARG DYEING & TENT WORKS procedures for payment, custom orders, returns, cancellations, damage, back orders and shipping prior to the customer purchasing any products.

PAYMENT: We accept only wire transfers with wire transfer fees added. Please note we cannot process the order to build stage until payment has been received in full.

RETURNS:

• Return of any merchandise is not permitted without prior approval and must be mailed within 30 days of receipt of merchandise.

• Defective or misshaped merchandise will be replaced.

• There will be a 20% restocking fee for any product returned that is not defective or not misshaped.

• Returns must be shipped prepaid freight.

• Shipping fees are non refundable.

• All warranties actual or implied are the sole responsibilities of the manufacturer and should be returned directly to the manufacturer for replacement or repair after coordinating with GARG DYEING & TENT WORKS.

• Custom orders, and items that have been worn, used, dirty, or altered or otherwise damaged/modified by the customer will NOT be accepted for refund or replacement.

CANCELLATIONS:

• Cancellations of any merchandise will result in a 5% cancellation fee.

• Cancellation of any merchandise that has already been shipped will be treated as a return. Procedures for Returns are outlined above.

LOSS OR DAMAGE: Please inspect items received immediately upon receipt. We will file a claim with the shipping company for lost or damaged merchandise.

BACK ORDERS: All items are normally made to order and take an average of 3-4 weeks from order to delivery. If we are temporarily running over this timeframe, we will contact you to determine if you want to back order or cancel purchase.

PRICE: Due to changing manufacturer, shipping & fuel costs, all items are sold at the listed price on day of ordering. Typographical errors are not honoured.

SHIPPING: Majority of items have shipping costs stated so you know total costs in advance. Items are shipped directly from manufacturer and shipping costs are determined by customer location.

DUE CARE: Our products are made with heavy duty canvas exteriors and pure cotton interiors which are hand block printed or embroidered. As each pattern is unique, it may contain minor imperfections. Canvas is a natural fabric and will leak the first 2-3 times of use as the seams are allowed to expand. We recommend that you rig up the Canvas roof and wall sections alone without the linings first and then, allow it to get wet enough to leak through the seams so that it expands evenly across the frame. Once dry, you can then put up the interior linings so as to prevent watermarks on the linings. Please note that product needs to be kept in conditions where it is allowed to dry promptly after rainfall to prevent build up of mildew and mould. In conditions of extreme wind and exposure to rain, we suggest you de-rig your outdoor room until it is safe to use again and hang out your linings and wall panels to dry separately. The Canvas and linings needs to be cleaned with water at the end of each season and folded away COMPLETELY DRY to prevent build up of mildew. The cotton linings will not shrink but must be cleaned/ hand washed in cold water to prevent the dyes from fading. Please note that the dyes will fade over a period of time from prolonged sun exposure to give a beautiful weathered look.

Question: Can I get a catalogue of your tents?
Answer: We don’t maintain catalog on papers. A complete catalogue with lots of photos, movies and information will be available soon on CD-Rom.

Question: Do you do custom work?
Answer: Yes! A large percentage of our orders are custom due to our wide range of printing. Please send us a sketch of what you have in mind with measurements and the type of tent you want. We’ll get back to you with a right quote.

Question: How soon will my tent and accessories ship?
Answer: It’s difficult because there are so many combinations of tents with different options in different types of printing work. At many times of the year it is quicker and sometimes can be longer. Spring and summer are our busiest times of the year. We do have quite a few of our products in stock, too. Always call if you need a rush order and we will try our best. If possible order in the autumn or winter to beat the rush. Please remember we are not a factory but craftsmen, dedicated to our trade, and enjoying our work. We maintain stock of all other items always in our stock and can be shipped within one week.

Question: Can I have colored top?
Answer: In short, yes, but we prefer to use natural white canvas for several reasons. Firstly colors rub off and can mark valance, drapes, tassels etc. Secondly the colors are not readily available with a fire retardant finish, so we have to order them specially. Finally the white canvas makes for a brighter, lighter and cooler tent in summer. We can also print designs on the canvas. Inner lining is available in many colors which is free from bleeding.

Question: How long will my tent last?
Answer: That all depends on the care and use of your tent. We cannot give a guarantee on the life of the canvas because it is a natural material and is affected by the local conditions and your care of the tent. With good care a frequently used canvas tent should give you 10 or more years of service. Badly cared for and your tent wont last a year. We strive for excellence but are only human!

Question: What type of canvas is used on Garg Tents?
Answer: Exterior is made from the finest materials with the 15 oz. marquee canvas being treated to ensure that is both waterproof, rot proof and also fire retardant as per British Standards (Flame-resistance in accordance with BS 7837: 1996, Water-resistance in accordance with BS 3408:1992, Rot-resistance in accordance with BS 2087:1992) and are specially manufactured to resist the sometimes-inclement like terrible weather. Outer canvas treated to meet California fire-marshall flame retardant specification CPAI-84- 6 & 7 also available. Question: Retardant fabric Vs. fire proof fabric:
Answer: We should all understand what is meant by the terms “fireproofing” and “fire retarding”. Cement, steel, bricks and even stone will distort, glassily, or decrepitated, when the temperatures are high enough. The object of flame resisting is to reduce the possibility of an incipient fire or flame from spreading and becoming a conflagration. Flame retardant dramatically slows this burning process Fires spread from the flames and heat from burning material, igniting other adjacent flammable materials. Normally when the ignition source is removed, the fabric will self-extinguish.
There is no such thing as fireproofing; everything will burn at a high enough temperature. This is quite true, technically speaking. All products on the market today which are intended to retard flame in fabrics, carpets, wood, etc., are intended to set up a thermal barrier to reduce the flame spread, to reduce the after burn and essentially allow some additional time for humans to escape from burning tents or buildings.

Question: Are your hand blocks printing on inner lining color fast?
Answer: Of course! All the colors are fast and never bleed. Even you can iron onto them.

Question: Do the tents come in other sizes than those listed?
Answer: We can make any tent to any size within certain structural limitations.

Question: Usages of Garg Tents?
Answer: We have made tents for just about every use you can imagine. Answer: We primarily sell tents. Your local tent and party rental company may already stock our tents or they can procure one from us to rent to you.

Answer: Visitors are always welcome at the workshop; we have a display area where we can erect the tents for your kind examination.

Question: Is there anywhere else I can see your tents?
Answer: From time to time we do attend shows and events to display our tents, contact us for a current list.

Question: Can I ship my order to a different location than my billing address?
Answer: No problem. Just specify when ordering where you want the shipping and billing address to be.

Question: How do I clean my Garg Tent?
Answer: Dirt will break down your tent over time. The cleaner you keep your tent the longer it will last. Mildew grows on dirt, so it is important to clean it before putting it away. To clean our canvas we recommend mild hand dishwashing liquid like Ivory in lukewarm water. Lay the tent down and scrub with a rag or a soft brush. The harder you scrub the more you risk scrubbing off the waterproofing. Do not use bleach or any other chemicals. Any soap left on the canvas could cause the tent to leak. Dry it completely before you put it away.

Question: Do you supply the printed fabric in yardages?
Answer: Yes, give us a call or send email.

Question: Are your tents guaranteed?
Answer: Of course. We guarantee our products to be free from manufacturer defects. We will gladly replace any product found to be defective upon delivery and/or under normal use. Given the hand-crafted nature of the product, minor variations in design and manufacture are to be expected. While made to be sturdy and long-lasting, normal wear and tear is inevitable if used out of doors for extended periods of time.

Question: What does the price of a tent include?
Answer: Prices are ‘complete’, with pegs, poles, pole sleeves, finials, drapes, hammer, all other erecting hardware and storage canvas bag. Contact us for a ‘canvas only’ price.

Question: What if I decide my tent is not right for me?
Answer: We make every tent to order, and so spend quite a bit of time with you when you order to ensure you are getting the right tent for your requirements. We cannot usually take back a tent once construction has begun. If you are in any doubt please check with us again before ordering, and if you are still in doubt, please don’t order!

Indian Tents
The exotic tradition of tents has touched the spirit and soul of many different cultures, capturing the imagination of nomads and free spirits throughout the world. North American Indians, Bedouins, Romans, Ottomans, Arabs, Tibetans, Mongols, Mughals and Maharajas have all favoured the romance of life under canvas. These tents offered the ultimate in luxurious hospitality, often serving as royal structures for the Maharajas and their courts, and were used to entertain

for a variety of occasions. Today, the tents are still used at palaces, private properties, gardens and resorts. And there are still Safari and Tented Camps in India at which travellers are welcomed.

For centuries they have been host to royal weddings, religious ceremony, polo events, hunting parties on safari, and dessert encampments.

Ceremonial tents became the symbol of wealth and rank and the centerpiece of religion and society – a place to talk, to play, to communicate. Tents were often the most precious possessions – dwellings of both utility and luxury. The history of tents is long and widespread, mentioned in holy literature, recorded in poetry, depicted in art, and used as a form of art in expressing the lives of ancient cultures.

The Mughal Emperor Akbar, is said to have lavishly patronized art during his era.

His style was a mixture of Persian and Indian motifs which gets reflected in the magnificent tents, carpets and furniture captured by the Ottoman army in the 17th Century. The Sultan had his court in a huge encampment of hundreds; even thousands of tents; at the centre of which was the “Tented Palace” called the “Imperial Tent Complex.” The imperial tents were pavilions, walled in by a symbolic rampart of cloth and recognized by their size and the splendor of their decoration – both inside and out. Around the royal enclosure were grouped together imposing tent of diminishing size belonging to high-ranking officers and officials. Within the royal enclosure is a great variety of tents of differing size and function, including a kitchen tent, dining tent, women’s tent, bath tents, toilet tents and stable tents.

Block Printing
A Printer is a Printer by caste and by trade. A Printer prints because it is his way of life. Many days are required to move a piece of cotton fabric through all the complicated steps of tanning and registering, curing and washing, resisting and dyeing.

Hand block printing is a skilled and laborious process.

Printers at Garg Tents explain that they enjoy the challenge of doing high-quality work, as long as customers recognize the quality and are willing to pay for it. The designs often provide challenges for the printers.

This technique simulates a wooden block on which the required design is first carved. The carved block is then used for transferring the motif in the desired colour on the fabric. This process is most effective on ethnic floral patterns and for printing in vegetable dyes in traditional Bagru and Kalamkari prints. Each colour in a design is printed on to the fabric separately - one block each for each colour.

Hand-block printed fabric designs of north India are some of the best known traditional manufactures of India. Archeological remains from the Indus Valley civilizations in the 3rd millennium BCE include cotton fragments dyed with ‘madder’, the same earthy red pigment which features in many of our hand block printed products. Dye vats, spindles & bronze needles found at sites like Mohenjo-daro indicate highly developed fabric work.

Indian textiles were carried along the great trade routes of the Ancient World, becoming highly prized in the Persian, Greek & Roman civilizations for their brilliant colours.

Special expertise in the complex process of hand block printed fabrics developed in the Rajasthan to service myriad royal courts in India. Many of those designs outlasted the rise and fall of other fashions and became a staple of home furnishings in Europe.

Modern industrial methods threatened every traditional handicraft, including hand block printing, with extinction. Mahatma Gandhi made strenuous efforts to support traditional handicrafts, especially fabric production. If he had had his way the center of the modern Indian flag would have been occupied by a simple spinning wheel, not the more martial chariot wheel. Gandhi believed that rapid industrial growth, driving people from the villages to the cities, robbing them of autonomy and cultural identity, was not the appropriate form of development for India.

He wanted to sustain and enrich village life and traditional culture. He accepted that science and industry offered many benefits to the people, but not at the expense of their fundamental livelihoods. At the time many as hopelessly idealistic regarded him yet his views can be seen reflected in the support the Government of India still gives to small-scale cottage industries..

You can clearly see Gandhi’s analysis played out in the field of hand block printing. Modern industry in the form of screen printers were able to take the classic hand block designs and reproduce them much more cheaply. A centuries old artisan tradition virtually died.

However US and European health concerns led to restrictions on the use of certain screen printing dyes. The cost implications for many Indian screen print manufacturers meant that Europe, US and other major markets were effectively now closed, forcing them to shut many of their units as a result. The Government of India has actively sought to revive the traditional art of hand block printing as part of a strategy to address economic damage to the fabric screen print industry.

The block printing process is done by hand. The maximum size of the block is roughly 5″ square and many of the motifs employ 2 or 3 blocks to make up the print. Each block is hand carved using the local hard wood known as sheesham. Block printing is a very skilled process as just the right amount of pressure has to be applied and this varies from block to block depending on size. The colours used are fixed and are machine washable.

About Canvas Tents
“Finished size” of a tent is the size after it is sewn together. Canvas is 100% cotton and cotton shrinks. You should expect your tent to be smaller after the tent has been preconditioned.

Shrinkage
All tents made from natural fibres, like cotton, will shrink and this will affect the “finished size” measurements of the tent. The exact amount of shrinkage is impossible to predict.

Freestanding Frames
Because of the unpredictability of fabric as to shrinkage, it is almost impossible to get an exact fit on any tent frame. Our years of experience with fabrics have given us an “average” shrinkage factor. This average is what we use when figuring what measurements to use when making frames. However, there are still times when some adjustment of your framework will be necessary to get a good fit. The best time to decide if adjustment is necessary is after the tent has been set up on the frame, wet down and dried thoroughly. If wet be sure to allow your tent to dry thoroughly on the frame before putting it away. NEVER PUT A DAMP TENT INTO STORAGE.

Mildew
One of the most common problems that occur in canvas is mildew. Even if the tent is made of a fabric that is mildew resistant, it will mildew if left damp. Mildew is very destructive to cotton fabrics as well as other materials. Mildew usually forms when tents are put in storage when damp but it can start while set up for no apparent reason. Mildew can start in a very short time and under certain conditions of humidity and temperature. If mildew has started to grow, it can be stopped from spreading by thoroughly drying the tent, preferably in the hot sun and applying a Cleaner. After any treatment has been applied, make sure the tent dries completely before putting into storage. If the tent is left up for an extended period of time is certain to occasionally air out the tent so that the humidity inside the tent, from cooking, bodies, etc, can dry. Keeping grass and weeds trimmed around the bottom of the tent is also important since dampness clings to foliage and does not allow air to get to the fabric. Do not delay in drying your tent!!!

Wood Burning Stoves
Always use caution when using a wood burning stove in your tent. Even flame retardant fabrics will burn when in contact with a flame source. There are several things you can do to reduce the chance of damage when using a stove in your tent. Sparks and embers that make it out of the stovepipe and fall back on the tent are the main problem. Remember to set the tent up so the prevailing wind will blow sparks away from the tent and not onto it. Use of a spark arrester cap over your stovepipe is highly recommended. Additionally, it helps to put small holes in the stovepipe above the ridgeline. This provides oxygen for more complete combustion of the sparks before they leave the pipe.

Winds
Intense winds can cause extensive damage to your tent and frames. Be sure to set you tent up using all the stakes and ropes provided, even if using a freestanding frame. It will be necessary to also guy the tent out front and back using the grommets provided in the ends of the ridge if used in windy conditions. Frequently checking the stakes and tightening the guy ropes if they loosen during periods of high winds will keep things together.

Proper use and care of your tent will insure many seasons of tenting pleasure.

The decorative inner linings and pole sleeves are made of finest cotton and can be hand block printed by our skilled and experienced staff in a range of designs and colors or made to your specific needs.

Drapes made of the premium quality cotton voile and are hand printed or plain around the boarders and flow from outside the roof and are simply tied to each pole with an attractive and tasseled string.

Poles and fittings are made of sturdy galvanized steel. For ease of transportation and storage the poles more than three meters long are manufactured in two sections.
